Iconic Machu Picchu is only the tip of the iceberg. We will also take in Cuzco—the ancient capital of Peru—and other sites around the Sacred Valley, as well as La Paz, Tiwanaku and Puma Punka in Bolivia. This will be an exciting expedition in search of ancient technology, megalithic construction, Star Gates and tons more!
Day 1: (Jan. 26) Fly to Lima. Overnight at Hotel El Condado, centrally located in the posh Miraflores district.
Day 2: (Jan. 27) In the morning we go on a walking tour of the area. David Hatcher Childress gives an introductory talk about we can expect on this trip to Peru and Bolivia. After lunch we visit the impressive Gold Museum and the Pocheakta Pyramid. Overnight at Hotel El Condado.
Day 3: (Jan. 28) After breakfast, we fly to Cuzco. In the afternoon we take a walking tour of Cuzco, a charming megalithic city that is still vibrantly alive. We visit the ancient Coricancha—the Temple of the Sun—with its machined stonework, and use our Cuzco Visitor Passes to access the history museum on the grounds. Overnight in Cuzco.
Day 4: (Jan. 29) We go on a tour of the incredible fortress of Sacsayhuaman with its gigantic stone blocks, taking in the ruins at Qenko and Tambomachay along the way. Also, along the way, we will have a lecture by Brien Foerster about the Incas and ancient Peru. The afternoon is free for exploring the ancient city of Cuzco, perhaps shopping or using your Visitors Pass to access more museums. Overnight in Cuzco.
Day 5: (Jan. 30) We go by bus to the Sacred Valley and overnight in Ollantaytambo, another ancient megalithic town that is still inhabited today. In the afternoon we take a walking tour of the colossal megalithic constructions (including the incomparable “Temple of the Sun”) with a special lecture by David Hatcher Childress.
Day 6: (Jan. 31) We take the train to fabulous Machu Picchu, visiting the awesome city all day and returning to Ollantaytambo in the evening. Overnight in Ollantaytambo.
Day 7: (Feb. 1) We pack up and leave Ollantaytambo to return to Cuzco by bus. We check back into our hotel in Cuzco and the afternoon is then free for shopping and sightseeing around town.
Day 8: (Feb. 2) After breakfast, we depart via bus for Puno, on magical Lake Titicaca. Along the way we visit the controversial Temple of Viracocha. Overnight in Puno.
Day 9: (Feb. 3) After breakfast, we go on an all-day bus excursion to the mysterious towers of Cutimbo and Sillustani. David Hatcher Childress gives a talk on the megaliths and mysteries of Lake Titicaca. Overnight at the hotel on the edge of magical Lake Titicaca.
Day 10: (Feb. 4) After breakfast we depart for the Bolivian border, stopping at the famous Star Gate of Amaru Muru along the way. We cross into Bolivia at the town of Copacabana and after lunch we take a speedy hydrofoil across Lake Titicaca past the Island of the Sun to the far side of the lake. We continue by bus to La Paz and overnight at the Ritz Hotel Apartments in downtown La Paz, the capital of Bolivia.
Day 11: (Feb. 5) We tour the La Paz Archeological Museum and see the controversial Fuente Magna Bowl with Sumerian writing on it in the morning, and then explore downtown La Paz with its shops and restaurants.
Day 12: (Feb. 6) Full day trip to the magnificent and mysterious ruins at Tiwanaku and Puma Punku. David explains the history and controversy of the site and reveals the evidence that power tools and advanced technology were used here. Back to La Paz for overnight at the Ritz Hotel.
Day 13: (Feb. 7) After breakfast we go on a walking tour of the Witches’ Market, and then the rest of the day is free for shopping and sightseeing. Optional trip to the Valley of the Moon. Overnight at the Ritz Hotel.
Day 14: (Feb. 8) After breakfast, we depart from La Paz, flying to Hugo Chavez International Airport in Lima (2-hour flight). You will transit the Lima airport to catch your flight later in the evening back to Houston, Newark, Chicago or Los Angeles. Flights to and from the United States will be on United/Continental Airlines. To fly from Europe or other continents or to use mileage points to fly to Lima and back, please contact us for revised quotes.
All hotels, transportation, airport transfers and breakfasts are included in the price. Visa fee for Bolivia ($125) not included. All drinks and other meals are extra. Single Supplement is $600.00
